Tour 2 - Emo 2 (C-tour Winners)

13 vs 2 Lucky Huckers
The first match of the day we were ready to go out and show the C tour teams why we should be in B tour. We started the match pumped up and ready to go without being complacent about the team we were about to face. Starting with Tom's double happiness we put the first point cleanly away. The points kept coming and we took the half with ease. After hanson joined us for the second half, we came out with a bit of zebra which started with a few gaps but towards the end was looking alot tighter.
13 vs 5 BPF 2
After hearing that BPF2 started playing after the beating that we gave them in the last tour, we knew we were in for a bit of a tougher job. They had a couple of good throwers who caused us a some problems with some low backhand breaks and deep shots early in the game. We didn't let that phase us and when we put an FM force on it clogged up the pitch and we tightened up our defence began to take it away. With some really slick offence including a fast pick-up and lead pass from Lucas to Maxwell for the score and me swinging it and busting deep from being a handler to catch the deep shot from Si we finished the game. They managed to score a couple of points towards the end but when they came out with a zone in the final point we walked it up the pitch easily to finish it.
13 vs 7 Brown 2
Our trickiest game of the weekend and from what we heard afterwards, Brown's best performance of the day. We had a slow start on D, with brown using alot of off-loads with the handlers, we relied on our good O to give us the lead to half. After switching to a straight up force we started to take away their options, with everyone getting tighter on D and we began draw away. A nice layout from Joel on O towards the end represented how well everyone was doing on O and brought this game to a close.
13 vs 3 Flump
Sunday morning and everyone was ready to go, especially after some of us had been at the pitches for a good couple of hours. Flump tried to come out strong and threatened deep but we soon closed down their deep options with our man D. Flump had only seven players so we kept up the pace and man D and didn't let them settle. One of the flump players gave us a gift by stopping Tom's pull with her leg before it hit the ground and tried to carry on playing but we told her otherwise and promptly put it away. We needed to work on getting our endzone play set up quicker but the O was working really well again otherwise. The pull play was effective and so were the quick pick-ups.
13 vs 5 Abstract
We knew that this game was probably the most important of the weekend as it would mean whether we would qualify for B tour or not so everyone was fired up and you could tell (energy bombs may have had something to do with this). Everyone was putting the effort in this match and getting blocks all over the place, including Tom who did well to earn the disc back almost straight away after a throw-away. Offence was clinical again, with the endzone play getting much better but was a little forced towards the end at some points. They got a couple of lucky scores from just chucking it up onto our breakside in the endzone on a high stall count which was frustrating but when they did score we would bring it right back to them. Our drills were really starting to pay-off with some good breaks and Thrash getting some off-load-to-up-wind-hucks with good catching from the receivers, with Bunny getting a couple of nice points and Joel literally reaching over the head of one of their women players for a catch just outside the endzone. One of the most notable moment's was Hanson's time out call outside the endzone to which one of the abstract players shouted 'but you're 12-5 up!'.
FINAL 13 vs 2! Curve
Into the final with a 15 minute break after the last match and high morale after a convincing victory against Abstract, we were stoked for this game. We came out strong getting D's and then punished them on offence with the right options and good breaks. They tried to disrupt the pace of the game at about 5/6 - 0 to us by calling a time out but we came right back at them and took the half. To be fair to Curb, they fought well throughout the game, and didn't get their heads, they didn't score until we were 11-0 up but by then the game was already ours. The whole team really brought their game on O and on D, including moments from Manny making a nice run into the endzone to receive a lead pass from a couple of break side throws, Si getting a sweet layout D and Bunny with a huge bid which he almost got in the endzone. The game was brought to a close with Thrash and Hanson working the endzone in one of the latter points and finished with Tom catching the disc at the very back of the endzone from another nice deep shot. In the talk after the match their captain said that we gave them a lesson in ultimate which really showed how well everyone played in that final. Well done this weekend to everyone that played and congratulations for winning C tour, we earned our spot in the B tour. O and D improved throughout the weekend, everyone got tighter on their marks, making them have to put in alot of effort to get free. Endzone plays also improved and O was good all weekend. There were a couple of times where people chose the wrong options or tried to force throws but these are little things, considering that we only conceeded 24 points over the weekend.
