Tour 3 - Emo 1 (finish 6th)

vs Fusion
Both teams seemed to score fairly easily on offence; we only got a handful of blocks in the first half and didn't convert, while Fusion took a single break into the half for an 8-6 lead. The second half was more scrappy; we got a lot more turns (some awesome blocks by Mote) but weren't able to convert as many as we wanted. At 11-10 our D scored off a sick layout block by Mum to make it 11-11, game to 13. We got a block, gave it straight back, then coughed up the disc on the second pass of our offence and lost the game 13-11. Frustrating to come so close to the team that went on to win the Tour final.
vs Chevy
Down early, we got a break or two and lost the first half 8-7. They came out in the second half hard and made the most of some terrible options by us to go 13-7, started getting ratty with each other and self destructed a bit. The game ended 15-10.
vs Brighton
Our heads were (unneccessarily) down and we never really got into this game, some of us got a bit angry with each other and it got to us. We scored our first O and got ablock in the first D point but gave it straight back and ended up losing heavily, 15-9.

A disappointing day for us but then again we were bottom of the pool and some of us (i.e. me) had acted like idiots, so we just vowed to put it out of our heads and get on with the next phase.
Sunday morning
vs Clapham 2
We were totally pumped for this and after initially trading, we open up a huge can of whupass and never looked back, getting turns easily. We were also busting hard on O and making sure of every catch, despite what I was throwing (Mum, Si W with huge catches in crowds, Mote with some sky blocks, Ewen with the big layout grab). Slightly eased up at the end so the O had to finish the game, which they did easily.
vs GB Masters
Excited to get a chance to play these guys, we didn't really respect them going deep for the first few points but then kept the D to epic levels, chased some perfect pulls down and got pumped up by a massive layout block by Buddha on the first pass, and two points later a Callahan score by Dave after some excellent work on the mark. We were moving the disc before they could get a mark on; I got a cheeky poach block deep and jacked it straight to Si W for a goal. They tried a few points of zone and slowed us down a bit until we started finding the holes, and - despite a few poach Ds by them - we were able to get the disc back easily towards the end and ran away with it. Their average age is more than 10 years older than us... so much for experience, eh? ;-)
vs Brighton
Our D dropped the ball in this game, pulling out of bounds almost every time and giving them lots of easy deep goals. Our O was able to keep us in the game with some equally great deep shots, but we lost 15-13. This game was one of those where all the points seemed fairly easy to score and similar. Just as at Tour 2, we were 13-13 on offence and lost the point that would have kept us in the game.

Finishing position: 6th. Our best yet this season. We had highs and lows, and actually I think that the fact that we are all disappointed to lose games against better teams is a good thing as it shows how highly we rate ourselves.
