On Sunday 4th May 10 of us took to the Molineux pitch for an exhibition game at half-time of the Wolves .v. Plymouth game. In front of 26,293 people we had about 6 minutes playing 5 on 5 width ways across the pitch.
The stadium announcer read out a little bit I’d written about the sport, the rules, who we were etc while we were playing and the Blue team won 2-1. Highlights included:
Pole laying out early on to save a disc from Steady;Dave laying out on O and Colonel on D for a disc from Pole and ending up off the pitch but still with a cheer from the crowd;
Some wolf whistles from both stands for Cat and Ali;
Steady, Ali and Buddha each scoring more goals than Plymouth managed (1).
When I got back to the area I work in some of the players who were injured/not selected were really impressed and wanted to know more about it. When they found out we play six 90 minute games in a weekend at Tour they were blown away – there is talk of doing a session for them at pre-season training. My colleagues that are normally quick to joke about Ultimate said they were really surprised and impressed at how athletic it was. A couple of the Wolves’ substitutes who were warming up stopped what they were doing and watched us for a few minutes. There were even a few comments from some clients that we should have stayed on for the second half as it was much better than the football!
Over all it was well received and was one of the better half-time entertainments we’ve had this season.
It was awesome playing in front of that many people and the club thought it was good and are interested in us doing it again, potentially at a game that Sky are showing.
