Vs. Trigger Happy (Won 16-14)
Took the first point and then traded for much of the first half. We got a nice break early on with some great defensive play and took the half 8-5. Came out storming and went 12-7 with a very confident and consistent long game. Trigger threw a zone which caught us all off guard and a lot of simple mistakes on our part let them get a foot back into the game. The buzzer went and we were left at 14 all game to 16. Finished with two of our most clinical points of the weekend but they shouldn’t have been necessary with the lead we had built up.Vs. Seamus Murphy (Won 14-13)
This team had watched the last 20 minutes of our trigger game after taking a hammering from Fusion West. Due to us running on in the last game, we had five minutes to prepare to play a very closely seeded team that were rested and had watched us almost chump it against trigger. Took the half 8-5 again with some slick offence from the pull and making their handlers life hell. The wind picked up slightly and the game traded to about 12-10 at which point Seamus threw a zone at us. Again we took too long to get to grips with beating the zone and Seamus pulled it back to 13 a piece, game to 14. We started on O, upwind, and took the disc straight up the field to lose it five yards from the endzone. At this point we bricked it a little and needed something special to take the game. Cheers Dave, Emo win 14-13.At some point during this game Crouchy got a “Dublin Kiss” off some poor bid by Seamus and had to stop play with a suspected concussion.
Vs. Fusion West (Lost lots-5)
The top team in our pool and first seed for the tournament were always going to be good but seeing as they turned up with only 9 players we thought we’d give them a run for their money. Good long play from both sides took the score to 2-2 very quickly. A spate of poor judgement, execution and communication errors hit us hard with Fusion rolling 6 more pints over us to take the half. Heads well and truly down at this point we took a moment to recognise the hole we we’re starting to go down and to pick ourselves back up. Went out fighting with some good points including a money huck from Biscuit to Timmy but we’d given them to much of a lead. After a few more mistakes we lost faith and bent over for them to finish and leave us second in the pool. On a good day that still may have been the result we deserved but everyone was pissed at our performance in that last game and shouldn’t forget that feeling.Turned up on Sunday With Crouchy fit to play, Povey agreeing that cricket was crap and Woody ready to please the people who have him on their fantasy ultimate team.
Vs. Brighton 2 (Won 13-8)
The game to stay in the top 8 came against Brighton which was a nice way to prove we we’re the best 2nd team around. Used our zones effectively to shut down every option but the long one which they took, and we caught. Great individual moments and good tactical awareness kind of just carried us through without to much drama. Most of our offense points were completely uncontested and we took a comfortable win.Vs. The Brown 2 (Won 13-7ish)
Seemed we would have to do a bit more work to prove we we’re the best 2nd team. They turned up pumped after having beaten Janitors in sudden death and with about 18 players. We started slow and they ran through us to go 3-0 up. We’d had a really good first game and didn’t want another game like the afternoon before. My team talks must be getting better (yeah, I know they’re not..) because we comfortably took the next 9 points with very little drama. Our loose zone completely threw Brown and by the time they found a way to beat it we had to big a lead. Traded out to finish comfortably. At this point we’d only lost one game to the team that later went on to win and could only finish as high as 5th. This coupled with some debate over how even the pools where left us feeling a little annoyed but we had Bristol next and a chance to really prove our abilities.
Vs. BPF (Lost 15-12)
Playing the exact sort of team we felt we should be competing against we went out well up for the game to end the weekend. Bristol got a good initial lead with their handlers taking all the responsibility for the disc until they stuck it in a corner of our endzone with very high competency. Our D was hot and we fought the way we should have against Fusion. Whenever we made a mistake the whole team fought for it back and most people made up for any individual mistakes they made during the game. We left Bristol sat on 13 or 14 points for a while as we racked up the points but a team like that will get that one point eventually and they took the game. A great day with a slightly unfortunate end but some of the best ultimate we’d played together.Finished Tour 2 in 6th place (from 8th) ahead of (if you don’t try and be smart and talk about fire or tooting) all other 2nd teams and I believe higher than we ever got last season. Great slog everyone. To many ridiculous individual moments to mention but they could have easily made a highlights real for the tournament just from our 6 games.
